1227 Holy Card: St. John Vianney

Back of card includes the Act of Contrition and:

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend Thee, O my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

“It is a beautiful thought, my children, that we have a Sacrament which heals the wounds of our soul! But we must receive it with good dispositions. Otherwise we make new wounds upon the old ones...There are some people who, indeed, tell everything, but they have no repentance; and they go at once to Holy Communion. Thus the Blood of Our Lord is profaned!”

Truly spoken by St. John Vianney who lived in the confessional for this reason, and often refused absolution for lack of sorrow and acknowledgement. We often prefer to reflect upon the Mercy of God, rather than the pain we give Him by our sins. We have forgotten what sin is. We are culpably ignorant. Without this recognition and sorrow, the sin remains, this the sorry state of things in our world today.
