Catholic Handwriting - 2nd Grade

This Catholic penmanship series covers kindergarten through grade six. Each grade level has a Catholic emphasis using words and sentences that pertain to the Faith. The Palmer Method of handwriting has been chosen for this series because it is the more traditional approach to writing. This method has been used in Catholic schools for decades with much success. With the proper attention paid to the student's penmanship, hopefully beautiful handwriting will be introduced into our culture once again. The subject of handwriting is almost nonexistent in most government schools and is confined to the first couple of grades in many homeschool curriculums. Our children must be taught to take pride in the knowledge they acquire and to produce in beautiful handwriting the things of God that they have learned.

At the kindergarten and early elementary levels, the pupil is instructed to trace the dotted formation in the direction of the arrow, then trace inside the outlined letter(s) following the direction of the arrow again. All capital and small letters and the numbers 0-9 are learned as well as short sentences.

In grade two sentences and full paragraphs are practiced on smaller lines and cursive writing is introduced.
